Tiger Woods opens 2017 with Farmers Insurance

Tiger Woods has confirmed he will compete in three events starting with the Farmers Insurance Open holding at Torrey Pines from January 26.

Woods will take part in his first PGA tournament of 2017 at an event he has won seven times and last won in 2013, with the event organisers announcing that the former world number one is committed to playing.

The second tournament he will compete in is the Genesis Open, an event that his charity Tiger Woods Foundation is running and will be played in Pacific Palisades, starting on February 16.

He also announced he will be competing at the 2017 Honda Classic held at PGA National Resort & Spa, which will take place on February 23 in preparation for the first major of the year at The Masters in April.

Meanwhile, Woods will compete in the European Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic next month, the former world No 1 said yesterday.

‘I’ve always enjoyed playing in Dubai and it’s fantastic to see how the city has grown phenomenally from when I first started playing there,’ Woods said on the event website.

Woods, sidelined by back pain for the past 15 months, will launch his official comeback at the Farmers Insurance Open on January 26.

The Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club runs between February 2 and February 5.
